The Fall Beach sweep was originally scheduled for October 1st before hurricane Ida decided to pay the Grand Strand a visit on September 30th. Our Windy Hill Beach area took a beating with flooding and a lot of damage to the Dunes. The storm surge to our immediate area was 8′ high in some places.
We rescheduled our *clean-up* for October 22nd at 8:30 AM, meeting at 46 Avenue South. We offered free coffee and donuts to all our volunteers. I was thankful we had about the same amount come out to help us as in past years.
The dunes were a mess. Lots of plastic bottles and cans resurfaced after the storm. Plastics, toys, clothing, sandals, a Barbie doll, plastic water bottle caps, pieces of fencing holding back the sand, plastic bags, and paper.
We hold two beach sweeps a year (spring and fall) and we welcome all volunteers to come out and help us clean the beach and dunes.
We’d like to thank all our many volunteers who gave up their time to make our beaches cleaner.
