Community Safety Survey – Your Input Needed!

We continue exploring ways to enhance community safety within the Barefoot Resort Residential Association (BRRA). Current safety devices and technology can assist in our efforts, we ask for your feedback by completing our survey.

The first section of the survey is for the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) program with AED stations located throughout Barefoot Resort.

(Refer to AED article authored by John Karpovich in a previous newsletter on the BRRA website) https://owners.barefoothoa.com/news/automated-external-defibrillators-aeds/

The second section is a proposed alert notification system exclusive to the Barefoot Community. Should the AED program moved forward, the alert notification system would be integrated with trained AED volunteers being notified of a cardiac call within their geographical radius.

Both systems come at a cost. The current state-of-the-art AED units (including storage box, installation and mounting material) is approximately $3,500 a station. It is our hope to secure instructors that will volunteer their time to train our residents. We will need at least 100 residents committed to being trained prior to this program moving forward.

Alert notification systems are operated by third-party private providers. The basic principle is resident being notified via text and/or a voice recording of an alert message to our choice of cell phone and/or household landline. Many of you are already familiar with similar systems used by local governmental agencies. The BRRA believes that the Barefoot community warrants and deserves prompt notifications of worthy incidents taking place within our community in a timely matter. Messages can be directed to individual communities, specific street(s), or the entire Barefoot community simultaneously.

The call-tree, phone a neighbor plan was implemented after the wildfires came through Barefoot in 2009. This system is volunteer based and beyond challenging to keep current. Accordingly, it is antiquated and unreliable. Alert notification systems are proactive, meaning alert messages will be sent simultaneously to all without anyone having to hunt for information. Alert notification plans are approximately $7.00 per/door annually.

Both of these safety ideas would qualify to be funded by the 1% fund and would NOT increase our HOA dues.
