The BRRA Sign Committee is an informal sub-committee of the Architectural Review Committee.

The committee was created in 2013 to oversee the Barefoot sign refurbishment project. BRRA Board members Michael Atwood and Kathy Kempf brought the deplorable condition of the Barefoot signs to the attention of the Board. No maintenance had been done since original installation in 2006.

The project cost over $110,000 and included 500 street signs on the spine roads and within communities, as well as handicap signs. Only LeatherLeaf and The Dye Estates maintain their own street signs with their own HOA funds. In 2016 the signs were numbered with metal tags and a corresponding spreadsheet that lists the sign number, type of sign, and its location was given to Ponderosa Management company.

This committee of owner volunteers continues to review sign conditions on an annual basis.

Summary of Duties…

Every spring, the committee takes inventory of the Barefoot street signs. Minor repairs and maintenance are noted and a request for repairs are given to the Board. These annual needs include paint touchup, cleaning / mildew treatment, and base repair from lawn maintenance equipment.

If any unusual repairs or recommendations are needed, the committee gathers costs and submits a special Request for Funds to the BRRA Board.

Recent Accomplishments…

In 2018 significant touchup was needed because none had been done for several years due to dissatisfaction with expensive estimated costs from several vendors. Only repairs were completed. After pursuing several more vendors this year, the Committee recommended and the Board approved Steve Jordan of Aurora Construction to complete the repair and touchup work for $8950 on 415 signs plus repair of 107 signs. (Compare to previous estimates of $10,000 for touchup on 150 signs; repairs were additional costs.)

Several bicycle signs were removed last summer with permission from the City to help de-clutter the number of signs throughout Barefoot.

The Committee recommended in 2017 and 2018 that the Board consider sign maintenance an annual operating cost and budget up to $5000 for annual upkeep.

Mainscape has agreed to put metal boots around the base of any street signs located in grass where they are subject to damage from lawn equipment. This will be completed at no cost to the BRRA.
