Barefoot Caring Council Monthly Spotlight

The Barefoot Caring Council is an organization consisting of concerned Barefoot residents who are committed to identifying, implementing and leading fundraising events to support local charities and non-profit organizations in our North Myrtle Beach Community.

To bring awareness to our Barefoot neighbors unfamiliar with the Caring Council, for the next several months, we will highlight one or two of the Caring Council’s initiatives.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact us at barefootcaringcouncil@gmail.com.

This month, the Barefoot Caring Council Spotlight is on…

Mobile Meals of North Strand

The purpose of Mobile Meals is to provide meal service to the ill, elderly, disabled, shut-in, and other persons in the North Strand area who are handicapped in their ability to obtain adequate nutrition for themselves. These nutritious home-delivered meals are packaged in insulated containers to keep them warm until delivered between 10:00 a.m. and approximately 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We at Barefoot provide volunteers to deliver hot meals Monday through Friday every 7-8 weeks. Volunteers include trained drivers plus two individuals. It usually takes about 4 hours to deliver the meals.

If you are interested in becoming a driver, please contact Dave Hardin at 843-390-1358 or 843-798-1489.

If you would like additional information about becoming a packer (prepares the food bag for delivery) or a runner (delivers the food bag to each recipient’s door), please contact Joan Maleckar at 843-390-1302 or 201-988-3757 or e-mail the Caring Council.

Monetary donations are always needed and most welcome. Please send your check to: MMNS, P.O. Box 4323, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582-4323.

Food Drive supporting
North Strand Helping Hand

The Food Drive initiative consists of donations that directly benefit North Strand Helping Hand, an organization that provides the basics of food, clothing, utility bills and transportation for those in need.

The Food Drive is held semi-annually in May and November at which time residents are asked to drop off non-perishable food items and personal hygiene items to the Residents’ Club. All residents of Barefoot can assist by being as generous as possible.

The next food drive is scheduled for Friday, May 6th from 9-11 a.m. Additional details to come in a separate e-mail. Please contact Kathy Check, Food Drive Chairperson, at 843-390-0589 or e-mail the Caring Council if you have questions.
