BAREFOOT CARING COUNCIL’S MONTHLY
SPOTLIGHT ON…

American Red Cross Blood Drives

The Barefoot Caring Council, in partnership with the Eastern Chapter of the American Red Cross, hosts two blood drives each year at Barefoot Resort.

Blood drives at Barefoot started in July of 2018, and to date, we have collected over 235 units of blood for our community-at-large.

Barefoot blood drives in 2023 will be held on January 17 and June 20.

The American Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood in the United States, providing nearly 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. Blood and platelets are needed for many reasons – accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood.

The Eastern Chapter of the American Red Cross covers Horry, Marion, Dillon and Florence counties. Their mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering. In responding to disasters last year, our Red Cross provided food, shelter and comfort to individuals and families in need, as well as casework and recovery assistance for disaster survivors. Last year alone, the Eastern Chapter of the Red Cross responded to more than 320 disasters and assisted over 980 people.

In addition to collecting blood donations, the Red Cross engages in many other humanitarian activities. Through their Home Fire Campaign, they install free smoke alarms and share fire safety information, they teach and empower more than 4.8 million people annually through training courses, and they provide support to service members and their families.
