Transition is the buzz word for this past year. The Residents’ Club Committee saw our very capable Chairperson, Maria Candemil, move out of the area and we are very grateful for her excellent leadership and wish her all good things going forward. We struggled along through Chelsea’s absence and were thrilled to have her back and congratulate her and her husband, Sean, on their new son, Harrison. In Chelsea’s absence, Kelly and Brandy continued to staff the Residents’ Club and schedule activities.
A new elliptical machine and new treadmill were purchased for the Fitness Room with the addition of a new rowing machine. The painting of the big room in the Residents’ Club was completed and we’re now looking at painting the entryway, hallway and additional rooms. The glass tops on the card tables were stabilized and beveled and we are planning to recover the remaining chairs. The hot water heater was replaced.

LOCAL – NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
- Did you know? North Myrtle Beach was formed from 4 communities in 1967.
- Ocean Drive was the first community to be incorporated as a municipality in 1948. Luther W. Fenegan was the first town’s mayor.
- Cherry Grove Beach became a town in 1959. C.D. Nixon was elected as mayor.
- Windy Hill Beach was incorporated in 1964 and John T. Harrell served as the town’s first mayor.
- Atlantic Beach was incorporated in 1966. Emory Gore was its first mayor.
- North Myrtle Beach Created. In 1967 a steering committee directed by Elbert Jordan achieved pledges from the four municipalities (excluding Atlantic Beach which asked to be omitted) to support a merger. The new city, named North Myrtle Beach was headed by Robert L. Edge, mayor. Eli T. Goodman and J. Bryan Floyd were councilmen at large. Mance Watkins was a council rep for Cherry Grove, Jennings Livingston was a council rep for Ocean Drive and M.A. Thompson represented Windy Hill.

Pelicans Baseball Beach Party is Right Around the Corner
The Pelican Beach Party on June 18th is right around the corner, don’t be left out. Tickets are $25 and includes an all you can eat buffet and a seat to the ball park beach area where you can enjoy watching the game with your Barefoot friends. June 18th is also Hawaiian Shirt giveaway (for the first 2000 fans) and fan favorite promotion of Sippin’ Saturday. This features $2 Bud and Bud Light 16oz cans, $3 glasses of Dublin Winery wine and $25 mega mug mixed drinks.
